The lesson arrives before the class does.

Since 2017 Semesta has used the Technology Integrated Classroom — some material and assessment happen online, and class time is used to go deeper.

Blended Learning

Online Face-to-face Blended Learning

Since 2017 Semesta School has brought digital technology into classroom learning, a system we call the Technology Integrated Classroom. Digital technology adds a new mode of learning, online, which means lesson material and assessment can happen online. Technology in the classroom has led to a new method that makes use of what technology offers (the online mode) and combines it with methods that came before. This method is called Blended Learning: learning that blends online study with face-to-face teaching.

Flipped Learning

Flipped Learning, or the flipped classroom, is one kind of blended learning used at Semesta School. It flips the learning process. In a conventional class, class time is for hearing the teacher explain the material, and independent study at home, homework, is for reviewing or deepening it. In a flipped classroom, the explanation comes before the school day, online. Teachers share material as videos, readings, or slide summaries, so students have already been introduced to the topic before the lesson begins.

Class time is then for deepening understanding: practice questions, worksheets, group discussion, summarising the material, experiments, demonstrations, and more. In short, technology in the classroom not only makes students more active (Active Learning) but also changes the teacher's role from source of knowledge to learning facilitator. All learning now centres on the student (Student Centered Learning), so students get a more enjoyable and, we hope, more meaningful learning experience.
